80% proper diet, 20% exercise. If you’re frustrated about not achieving your ideal size or getting that health goal you wanted even after running a gazillion miles and taking tons of expensive classes, well, lifestyle check! You’re probably not eating right. It’s 80% diet and 20% exercise. THIS is probably the simplest yet most important formula that I will ever impart to you during my health and wellness journey. Easy to say but a tough job to do. So yes, join me and let’s stride through this one day at a time 🙂
For starters, I recommend that you try and incorporate “super” foods in your diet. I’m a rice-eater and I like carbs (actually, LOVE carbs). Most Filipinos do! So it really was a struggle for me to give this up, so I DIDN’T. And instead of cutting it completely out of my diet, I tried to moderate my carb intake and looked for healthier alternatives. EVERYTHING IN MODERATION, INCLUDING MODERATION! During my hunt for this carbo alternative, I found myself discovering other superfood friends along the way.
BUT WAIT, what are superfoods anyway?? Where can I get them? What do they do? I asked the same questions when I started my hunt.
Well, simply put, superfoods are basically foods that are nutritionally dense and are packed with a lot of vitamins that are great for your body. There isn’t really a legitimate and official list of superfoods and neither do they have their own food group. So they really may come in different forms like greens, grains and fruits. Your choices may vary depending on what nutrition your body currently needs so you can be flexible and tailor-fit your choice as much as you like. Just make sure you don’t overdo it because anything in excess is BAD. Below are my current top 5 superfood picks!
My favorite carb! Yes, Quinoa is part of the carbohydrates family but it is known to be the “good” carb because it contains low levels of carbohydrates. It is not a grain, it’s a seed and it is a remarkable source of protein, vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants.
WHERE TO BUY: You can buy GoGo Quinoa at SnR (or check out their website at http://www.gogoquinoa.com
HOW TO PREPARE: I usually just boil or use the microwave until the seeds are fluffy and translucent. Make sure your have enough water — 1.25 cups of water to 1 cup of quinoa
MY PERSONAL MIX: To balance my daily carb intake, I usually replace rice with quinoa during lunch and/or dinner meals and pair with a macho protein such as chicken breast, lean beef or grilled fish. I also manage my intake based on my activity for the day. The more workout/exercise you’ll do for the day, the more carbs you need and vice versa. So if you’re on your off-workout day, you can replace your rice with quinoa.

#4 FLAX SEEDS
Flax seeds are known to be the highest source of Omega 3, an essential fatty acid, which helps lower cholesterol and improves heart, skin, bone and mental health. Aside from Omega 3, they also provide the body with antioxidants, fiber-like benefits and a healthy digestive system.
WHERE TO BUY: I got my organic golden flax seeds from Realfood store. I visit the branch at Molito, Alabang. Other than Flax seeds, they also have tons of other healthy food options in the store. check them out!
HOW TO PREPARE: You should make sure to grind the seeds first before adding it into anything as flax seeds have hard shells and it might not be absorbed in the digestive system if consumed whole.
